Pull it up from the root, it is in shallow ground!!
It is common knowledge that California is in a drought!! One that I and others have been praying against! What never ceases to amaze me, is that even though there is a drought and plants are suffering…weeds are surviving!! They don’t need a lot of soil to survive; they don’t even need good soil to live; in fact they put down roots in any open piece of land. The interesting thing is that they don’t need to be tended, fertilized or anything else that plants normally need to survive. How is it that they are able to survive? They must be getting fed from some other unseen source.
When we were children, no one could tell us that we couldn’t save the world!! Fly to the moon!! Be a teacher, doctor, lawyer, etc. We had no fears. We were uninhibited until life set in. People sowed negative ideas in our heads. “You are not good enough’!!! “You will never amount to anything”!! Our parents or other influential people in our lives sowed fear, anxiety, etc. into us that determined who we believed ourselves to be rather than who God called us to be. We allowed the lies of the enemy to take root in our souls and we grew up with a warped perspective of who we thought we were and we put a cap on where we would end up. All of this was part of the enemy’s plan and we bought into it. Things can only grow if they are fed. It might have appeared that you didn’t agree with the negative stuff, but it is evident you believed it based on your actions, reactions and thought patterns.
As you grew up and came into relationship with God, you were given a new lease on life. God offered us life and life more abundantly. He offered us a renewing of our minds and spirits. We accepted it believing things would be different. Some things did change, but others didn’t!! You wondered why you still struggled with fear, insecurity, doubt, self hate, etc…it was because those lies were not as easy to get rid of. Even though you desired to come out of that place, you still fed it by allowing those lies to trump what you knew to be truth, God’s truth!! Luke 1:37 New Living Translation (NLT) 37 For nothing is impossible with God. God says nothing is impossible for Him. Therefore, if He says you will grow up to be president, then no background, no financial status, no social status can negate what He said. What can change it is if you buy into the lies that it is impossible and therefore sabotage yourself at every juncture. Sometimes, it appears so much easier to accept this is just who you are, rather than stepping out, taking the leap of faith, trusting God that He will accomplish what He says. It is what you know right? What you know is easier to deal with than the unknown. I mean, at least you have devised a system to deal with the issues or to hide them!! With accepting the impossibilities as possibilities, it requires you to step out of your comfort zone and embrace a whole new way of living.
If we do not allow God to uproot those old ways and make us a new creature, how can we move forward in what God has called us to be and do? How can we live the victorious life that God has ordained for us?
Let us take a closer look at a weed!! What is a weed? The dictionary says a weed is ‘a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants’. Wow, wow and Wow!! Is that not an exceptional analogy of things taking root in our lives, snuffing out the new that God is trying to do in your life? Those lies have been there for so long, that even if they started off in shallow ground, they have taken root and the roots are deep. That changes nothing!! They can still be uprooted!! It is never too late!!
Isn’t time we allow God to uproot those things that say we can’t? Isn’t it time to confront the lies of the enemy and replace them with the truth of God? Don’t break off the root by just cutting it with temporary fixes!! It will still grow!! Get violent with it and refuse to feed it anymore!! Starve those roots by not succumbing to the lies!! They don’t belong there and are competing for the things of God!! You want to overcome fear? Then do the opposite of what fear tells you to do!! You want to overcome doubt, keep believing for the impossible!! Don’t just believe, step out in faith and dare to take the steps that God tells you to take!! Do not allow another day to pass by with those weeds in place…pull them up from the root…they are in shallow ground!!
